Sharpshooter alternatives mostly appeal to owners who find its returns too modest, since its risk has been among the most contained in its group. Sharpshooter is a EURUSD martingale, an expert advisor that adds bigger trades to losing positions, and three other robots we track do the same job on the same pair. This page is for anyone asking whether another robot offers more return without more risk.

The short answer: as of August 6, 2026, no direct alternative beat Sharpshooter on both counts. FXConstant drew down less (4%) but returned only +3%, while Dark Algo and Market Master returned more with deeper drawdowns (32% and 56%).

All figures come from live accounts we own. Sharpshooter’s rest on 15,258 trades over 17 months, the most evidence behind any EURUSD robot we track, inside a wider set of 527 live and funded accounts and 122,837 closed trades.

Key takeaways

  • Sharpshooter won 65% of trades beside an 18% worst drawdown, returning −11% to +8% over 17 months.
  • Dark Algo returned up to +20% over 8 months, with a 32% drawdown; Market Master reached +59% over 15 months, with 56%.
  • FXConstant recorded a 4% drawdown and a +3% return, but only across 7 months.
  • EuroStable, a grid that never adds to losers, returned +1% to +53% over 14 months with every account positive and a 26% drawdown.
  • Sharpshooter had the lowest win rate of the four martingales and the shallowest drawdown but one.

How did we track these EURUSD robots?

We ran every robot here on accounts we fund ourselves, never customer accounts, and measured each by identical rules.

  • Worst drawdown is the largest fall in total account value from a high point to the following low, counting closed and open losses and ignoring deposits or withdrawals. A drop from $10,000 to $6,000 is a 40% drawdown.
  • Worst open loss shows how far underwater the unclosed trades went at their deepest point, exposing robots that sit on losers while the balance looks calm.

Every robot on this page recorded an open loss larger than its drawdown, which means each carried losing positions for a while. Records range from 7 to 17 months, and martingale and grid accounts in our set skew young, so shorter histories may not yet contain a bad month.

What is an EA, and which types appear here?

An expert advisor is a program that places trades on its own inside MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5. MetaQuotes’ documentation describes how each running EA is tied to a chart and can open or close positions whenever automated trading is permitted. For setup basics, start with what an EA in forex is.

We sort every trading robot into one of six types by what its trades show, not its sales page; our guide to EA strategy types sets out all six. Two appear here.

Martingales increase position size when a trade goes against them: Sharpshooter, Dark Algo, Market Master and FXConstant. Grids add positions of equal size and never scale up: EuroStable. Each robot trades EURUSD, either exclusively or for the large majority of its activity.

How do the Sharpshooter alternatives compare side by side?

Here is every robot on one screen, with Sharpshooter first as the reference. All figures are as of August 6, 2026.

One detail jumps out. Sharpshooter posted the lowest martingale win rate here yet one of the smallest drawdowns, a reminder that win rate says little about risk.

Which direct alternatives work the same way as Sharpshooter?

Three robots share Sharpshooter’s market and mechanism: EURUSD martingales that scale into losing trades. First, the robot you would be replacing.

Sharpshooter

Sharpshooter is a martingale: when a position moves the wrong way, it adds larger trades rather than closing at a loss. It trades mostly EURUSD and holds for hours, the shortest hold among the martingales here.

Over 17 months and 15,258 trades, Sharpshooter’s accounts returned between −11% and +8% as of August 6, 2026. Its worst drawdown reached 18% and its worst open loss 25%, with a 65% win rate sitting beside that 18% figure. Low risk and low reward, backed by more evidence than any rival.

Dark Algo

Dark Algo follows the same recovery logic, but it trades EURUSD only and keeps positions for days to weeks rather than hours.

Across 8 months and 443 trades, Dark Algo’s results ranged from −10% to +20% as of August 6, 2026. The worst drawdown was 32% and the worst open loss 34%, beside a 77% win rate. It offered more upside than Sharpshooter, at close to double the drawdown and on a fraction of the evidence.

Market Master

Market Master is a martingale whose activity is mostly EURUSD, usually holding positions for one to three days.

Over 15 months, Market Master’s accounts spanned −8% to +59% as of August 6, 2026. Its worst drawdown reached 56% and its worst open loss 66%, with a 74% win rate next to that 56% figure. It is the answer to “more return,” and also the clearest example of what that costs.

FXConstant

FXConstant adds to losing trades like the others and holds for days to weeks, with most of its activity on EURUSD.

In 7 months, FXConstant returned +3% as of August 6, 2026. Its worst drawdown was just 4% and its worst open loss 5%, beside a 70% win rate. That is the calmest record here, but also a young and low-return one, so it has not yet been tested by a hard trend against its positions.

Which alternative is close, but different?

One EURUSD robot suits Sharpshooter owners ready to leave martingales behind.

EuroStable

EuroStable is a grid: it opens same-size EURUSD positions as the market moves and closes them intraday, never scaling up on a loser.

Over 14 months, EuroStable’s accounts returned between +1% and +53% as of August 6, 2026, and each finished ahead. Its worst drawdown was 26% and its worst open loss 35%, with a 77% win rate next to that 26% figure. That is more return than Sharpshooter for somewhat more risk, and a deeper open loss, since grids carry losers too.

How do these alternatives differ, criterion by criterion?

They share a pair, so the real choice comes down to mechanism, risk depth and the weight of evidence behind each record.

Mechanism

Four robots enlarge positions on losing trades, the source of their rare but large losses; our explainer on martingale EAs sets out why. EuroStable’s grid adds equal-size positions, which changes the shape of the risk without removing it.

Risk shape

Across 67 martingale accounts in the broader dataset, a bad month (the worst 10%) reached a 32% drawdown and the deepest ever recorded was 93%. Sharpshooter and FXConstant sit well below that line, Dark Algo right on it, and Market Master far beyond.

Open loss adds detail. Sharpshooter’s trades went 25% underwater at worst; Market Master’s reached 66%. On a hypothetical $10,000 account, that is about $2,500 of unrealized loss against $6,600.

Market and session

All five trade EURUSD, so they compete for the same price moves. Running two of them together stacks exposure on one pair rather than spreading it.

Trade frequency and holding time

Holding times run from intraday (EuroStable) and hours (Sharpshooter) to days or weeks (Dark Algo and FXConstant). Longer holds mean more overnight and weekend exposure to a trend, and more swap charges at most brokers.

Suitability

  • Prop firm challenge: FXConstant and Sharpshooter posted the lowest drawdowns (4% and 18%), though every martingale carries open-loss swings that evaluation rules punish. This roundup of the best forex EA for prop firm challenges covers what to look for.
  • Small account: all five hold several positions at once, so each needs headroom.
  • Long-term holding: Sharpshooter’s 17 months is the longest record here, with −11% to +8% alongside that 18% figure.

Which Sharpshooter alternative should you choose?

Your answer depends on what you want that Sharpshooter did not give you. Which describes you?

  1. Stay with Sharpshooter if contained risk and deep evidence matter most, accepting −11% to +8% over 17 months with an 18% drawdown.
  2. Choose EuroStable if you want more return and are willing to leave martingales: +1% to +53% over 14 months, drawing down 26% and ending with no losing accounts.
  3. Watch FXConstant for even lower risk, knowing its +3% over 7 months, with a 4% drawdown, is still an early record.
  4. Avoid Market Master unless a two-thirds open loss is survivable for you; its 56% drawdown over 15 months came with −8% to +59%.

Our directory of tracked robots covers the rest of the EURUSD group.

What goes wrong when these robots hit a bad stretch?

For Sharpshooter, the bad stretch was a slow grind rather than a blowup: open trades 25% underwater at worst, and some accounts ending below zero, down to −11% after 17 months. That frustrates owners more than it frightens them.

Market Master’s worst moment was the opposite: open trades two-thirds underwater while the robot kept adding. Dark Algo sat in between, with positions a third underwater, held for days or weeks. EuroStable finished with no losing accounts, yet its open loss still reached 35%.

What an experienced trader would do before switching:

  1. Weigh evidence as well as results; 15,258 trades carry more weight than a few hundred.
  2. Size any new robot for a drawdown deeper than its own record.
  3. Never add fresh money mid-drawdown to keep a basket alive.
  4. Host the terminal reliably so multi-day positions stay managed; our comparison of a forex VPS and a dedicated server explains the options.

Verdict: what is the best Sharpshooter alternative?

None of the three direct rivals improved on Sharpshooter’s balance of risk and evidence: FXConstant was calmer but thinner, while Dark Algo and Market Master earned more by drawing down far deeper, as of August 6, 2026.

The most interesting option is the close-but-different one. EuroStable returned more than Sharpshooter, kept all its accounts in profit, and never added to losers, at the price of a 26% fall from peak and a 35% open loss.

If Sharpshooter’s modest returns are your only complaint, I would think carefully before trading its contained risk for a bigger number.

FAQs

Why does Sharpshooter have a lower win rate but a shallower drawdown than its rivals?

Sharpshooter’s lower win rate and shallower drawdown fit how martingales work, although our data cannot show the settings behind them. It won 65% of trades beside an 18% worst drawdown over 17 months, while Dark Algo won 77% beside 32% and Market Master 74% beside 56%. Martingales raise win rates by adding to losing positions until price returns, and that same habit can deepen drawdowns. A lower win rate is not automatically a warning sign.

Are there EURUSD robots that do not grid or martingale?

One EURUSD robot we track neither grids nor adds to losers: Forex Trend Hunter, a swing robot holding one trade at a time for one to three days. It is not automatically safer. Over 17 months to August 6, 2026, it won 61% of trades beside a 47% worst drawdown and a 49% worst open loss, returning +1% to +58%. Holding a single trade removes martingale stacking, but a wide stop on one position can still cost heavily.

Is Sharpshooter suitable for a funded prop firm account?

Sharpshooter is only a partial fit for a funded prop firm account. Its 18% worst drawdown over 17 months is shallow for a martingale, but its worst open loss reached 25%, and many evaluation rules count open losses against the limit. Before running it on a funded account, compare that 25% figure with the firm’s maximum loss rule. Our beginner’s guide to prop firm challenges explains how those rules usually work.

Can backtesting show the risk in a EURUSD martingale?

Backtesting rarely shows the full risk in this kind of robot, because a test only covers the history chosen and often assumes fixed spreads and perfect fills. A martingale can look smooth for years of data until one sustained trend arrives. That is why we publish only live results; Sharpshooter’s 18% drawdown rests on 15,258 real trades. Our guide on why backtest results differ from live trading lists the specific gaps to check.

How much leverage can EU retail traders use on EURUSD?

EU retail traders can open EURUSD positions at up to 30:1 leverage, the limit ESMA set for major currency pairs when it restricted CFDs in 2018. Brokers must also close out retail positions once margin falls to 50% of the minimum required. For a martingale like Sharpshooter, each added trade needs more margin, so a basket caught in a strong trend can reach that close-out level before price recovers, locking in the loss.
