Dawnbreak for MT5 – Session Range Breakout on Gold (How It Works)Featured

About Dawnbreak

Dawnbreak trades one range breakout per day, mainly on gold and the DAX, with a stop on every trade and no grid. See how it trades, its markets, the settings and the risks.

The Mechanics of Dawnbreak

Dawnbreak is a session range breakout Expert Advisor for MetaTrader 5. Its two main markets are gold (XAUUSD) and the DAX (DE40). It also trades BTCUSD, EURJPY, GBPUSD and US30 as additional markets. It is built for traders who want a simple breakout with a hard stop and who are willing to test it in the Strategy Tester first. It is not a fit if you need a long live track record of Dawnbreak alone, or if you want to run a small account on gold. Past results, in a backtest or on a live account, don't guarantee future results, and trading with an EA can lose money.

The core logic is short. The EA marks the high and low of a fixed morning window. It then places a BuyStop order at the range high and a SellStop order at the range low. The first order to fill wins and the other is deleted. The stop loss sits at the opposite side of the range. There is at most one trade per day and chart, and anything still open is closed in the evening. There is no grid and no martingale.

Dawnbreak is developed by Pitt Petruschke (AlgoVerdict) and sold on Algo Trading Space. The current version is 3.7, released on 17 Oct 2026. It fixes the lot size on some index CFDs.

The developer runs Dawnbreak alone on his own IC Markets account since 7 Nov 2026, and our Account Tracker follows it on this page.

How the strategy works

Four ways a day can end: no breakout, stop loss, take profit or evening close. All planned in advance.
Same risk every day: the range sets the stop, the stop sets the lot.
Optional adaptive take profit: learns a target from the last 30 breakouts.
Six built-in rules: OCO bracket, range read twice, one trade per day, a stop on every order.
The live dashboard: status, session, range, today, take profit and track record at a glance.
On the chart: range boxes, stop levels, skipped days and your trades.
Gold and the DAX as main markets, four additional markets, each with its own set file.
Backtest example XAUUSD H1: adaptive take profit vs. no take profit. Python simulation, not the MT5 Strategy Tester.

Illustration, not real prices. Past results do not guarantee future results. The adaptive take profit backtest (step 8) is a Python simulation on hourly bars, not the MT5 Strategy Tester; no spread, commission or slippage modelled.

Understanding the Dawnbreak Strategy

Dawnbreak trades one breakout of a fixed morning range per day and chart, with a stop loss on every trade and no grid or martingale. Its main markets are gold and the DAX, with BTCUSD, EURJPY, GBPUSD and US30 as additions.

Best suited for:

  • Traders who want one clear breakout per day on gold (XAUUSD) or the DAX, with a hard stop on every trade.
  • Traders who test every set in the Strategy Tester before trading it.
  • Traders who can match the time windows to their broker's server time.
  • Traders who accept losing streaks and skipped days.

Not recommended for:

  • Traders who need a long live track record of Dawnbreak alone.
  • Small accounts on gold. According to the developer, gold at 1% risk needs about $7,500 or more.
  • Traders who cannot keep the terminal online during the session.
  • Anyone who treats the backtest return as an expected return.

Dawnbreak is available here on Algo Trading Space. Start with the Strategy Tester, then a demo account.

Technical Specifications and Trading Logic of Dawnbreak

Every step of Dawnbreak's day follows fixed rules. Nothing depends on the last trade's result.

  • Range and OCO Entry

The EA measures the high and low of a fixed window in server time.

The EA measures the high and low of a fixed window in server time. After the window closes, it reads the range again from M1 history, so a missed tick cannot distort it. It then places a BuyStop and a SellStop as a one-cancels-other bracket. If only one of the two orders can be placed, the EA withdraws that one too rather than trading one-sided.

  • Stop Loss and Lot Size

Every order has a stop loss.

Every order has a stop loss. By default it sits at the opposite side of the range. The lot size is calculated from the balance and the stop distance and capped at 90% of the free margin. If the calculated lot is below the broker's minimum lot, the EA skips the day instead of rounding up.

  • One Trade per Day, Restart-Safe

There is at most one trade per day and chart.

There is at most one trade per day and chart. The EA registers a fill at once and checks the day's deal history after a restart. Any leftover order is deleted, so a second trade on the same day is not possible.

  • Exit and Adaptive Take Profit

A trade ends at the stop loss, at the take profit or at the fixed close time in the evening.

A trade ends at the stop loss, at the take profit or at the fixed close time in the evening. The standard sets use no take profit; a second gold set uses the adaptive take profit. As an option, the EA can learn a target: after every breakout it measures how far price ran, and it sets the next target at the average of the last 30 breakouts. Until 30 values are collected, it paper-trades by default and places no orders. According to the developer, that takes six to eight weeks. In the Strategy Tester every run starts without learned values, so with paper trading on, the first 30 breakouts place no trades there.

Each market has its own set file and magic number, so several markets can run side by side on one account. The risk then adds up on days when more than one market trades.

  • Platform Compatibility

Core Strengths of the Dawnbreak System

  • Stop on Every Trade

Every order carries a stop loss, in the sets at the opposite side of the range, and there is no grid or martingale.

  • One Trade per Day

At most one trade per day and chart, even after a terminal or VPS restart.

  • Careful Lot Sizing

The lot follows the balance and the stop distance, is capped at 90% of free margin and is never rounded up.

  • Testable Rules

Fixed times and rules mean every set can be rerun in the Strategy Tester with your own broker's ticks.

  • Two Main Markets, Four More

Gold and the DAX are the main markets; BTCUSD, EURJPY, GBPUSD and US30 come as additions.

Who Should Use Dawnbreak?

Why Traders Choose Dawnbreak for Automated Trading

Dawnbreak does one thing: it trades a breakout of a fixed morning range. There is no grid, no martingale and no averaging logic. You can follow every trade on the chart, from the range to the bracket to the exit.

  2. Risk Sized From the Stop

  3. More Markets When You Want Them

The Dawnbreak Setup and Implementation Process

Getting Dawnbreak running takes a few steps. The most important one is to load the right set and check your broker's server time.

  1. Download and File Placement

Buy Dawnbreak on Algo Trading Space and download it from My Account on Algo Trading Space, together with its set files.

Buy Dawnbreak on Algo Trading Space and download it from My Account on Algo Trading Space, together with its set files. There is one set per market; the gold and DAX sets are the main ones. Dawnbreak checks its licence online, so allow our address once in MetaTrader: open Tools, then Options, then Expert Advisors, tick "Allow WebRequest for listed URL" and add https://algotradingspace.com.

  2. Initialization on the Chart

Attach the EA to a gold chart (XAUUSD) or a DAX chart.

Attach the EA to a gold chart (XAUUSD) or a DAX chart. Some brokers call the DAX GER40 or GDAXI instead of DE40. You need an MT5 account with hedging or netting, and a broker that accepts pending orders with an expiry time. The time windows assume a broker server on UTC+2, or UTC+3 in summer. If your broker uses a different server time, you have to shift the windows yourself. On start, the EA writes its key settings to the log, so a wrongly loaded set is easy to spot.

  3. Configuring the Sets

Load the set for your market: gold or the DAX first, or one of the additional markets.

Load the set for your market: gold or the DAX first, or one of the additional markets. The gold set uses a range window from 03:05 to 06:05 and closes at 18:55. The DAX set uses 07:00 to 11:00 and closes at 20:00. All sets risk 1% of the balance per trade and place the stop at the opposite side of the range. Each set has its own magic number, so gold and the DAX can run side by side on one account. The daily loss limit and the spread filter are switched off in every set. If you want them, switch them on yourself.

  4. Monitoring and Management

The dashboard shows the status, a session timeline, the range and price, today's result, the loss limit, the take profit and recent trades.

The dashboard shows the status, a session timeline, the range and price, today's result, the loss limit, the take profit and recent trades. The chart keeps the ranges of the last 20 trading days with their order levels, and filtered days are marked. The terminal needs a stable connection during the session, which in practice means a VPS. If the terminal or VPS restarts, the EA finds its orders again.

Technical Review and Implementation

Before going live, run your set in the Strategy Tester with real ticks from your own broker, then on a demo account. Check that the time windows match your broker's server time and that the symbol name is right. Decide on your total risk: gold and the DAX at 1% each can put 2% of the account at risk on the same day, and the EA has no account-wide cap. Switch on the daily loss limit and the spread filter if you want them. Keep in mind that stop orders fill at the next available price on gaps and news, so a single loss can be larger than 1%. When you are ready, buy Dawnbreak here on Algo Trading Space.

Common Questions About Dawnbreak

Practical answers on markets, risk, capital and setup.

Which markets does Dawnbreak trade?

Its two main markets are gold (XAUUSD) and the DAX (DE40, also called GER40 or GDAXI). It also trades BTCUSD, EURJPY, GBPUSD and US30 as additional markets, each with its own set file and magic number.

Does Dawnbreak use a grid or martingale?

No. Per day and chart there is one BuyStop and one SellStop. The first to fill wins and the other is deleted. Every order has a stop loss, and the lot size does not depend on the last result.

How much capital do I need?

According to the developer, gold at 1% risk needs about $7,500 or more. With a smaller account, the calculated lot falls below the minimum lot on days with a wide range, and the EA skips those days. Risk adds up across charts: gold and the DAX at 1% each can risk 2% on the same day.

Which account type do I need?

An MT5 account with hedging or netting, a broker that accepts pending orders with an expiry time, and ideally a server time of UTC+2 or UTC+3 in summer. With a different server time, you shift the windows yourself.

How should I read a backtest of Dawnbreak?

As a simulation on one broker's data. Spreads, slippage and commission differ between brokers, and a breakout strategy is sensitive to them. Rerun the set with your own broker's real ticks, then trade it on a demo account. A backtest does not replace a live track record.

Is there a live track record?

Yes, a young one. The developer runs Dawnbreak alone on his own IC Markets account since 7 Nov 2026, and our Account Tracker follows it on this page. Treat it as an early look, not a track record.

What does Dawnbreak cost?

79 EUR plus VAT as a one-time payment on Algo Trading Space, with no rent option.

Do I need a VPS?

Yes. The terminal needs a stable connection during the session, so run Dawnbreak on a VPS. Dawnbreak is restart-safe: after a terminal or VPS restart it finds its orders again and still trades at most once per day.
