RecoveryPilot for MT5 – Pay Off a Losing Trade Part by PartFeatured

About RecoveryPilot

RecoveryPilot locks a losing trade and pays it off part by part on MT5. See how it works, its safety limits and the risks of grid and zone mode.

The Mechanics of RecoveryPilot

RecoveryPilot is a recovery Expert Advisor for MetaTrader 5. It works a losing trade back instead of waiting for a reversal. It can open its own entries or take over trades that are already in loss, including manual trades and trades of other EAs. It runs on any symbol, but only on a hedging account. It is a fit for traders who want a planned, limited way out of a loss. It is not a fit for traders who need a fast fix: paying off a large loss can take weeks or months. Past results, in a backtest or on a live account, don't guarantee future results, and trading with an EA can lose money.

The main mode is partial recovery. When a trade is one step in loss, the EA opens an opposite position of the same volume. This lock freezes the loss. The losing volume is split into up to eight parts. Small recovery orders then open in the direction of the trend. Each time their profit covers the loss of one part plus costs, the EA closes that part. Step by step, the frozen loss gets smaller. With the default settings there is no lot multiplier in this mode.

Grid averaging and zone recovery are still included as alternative methods. Both are martingale-type: the lot size grows as the trade goes against you, and the EA says so itself. In every mode RecoveryPilot calculates the worst case before it starts and puts hard limits around it. Since version 1.2 an auto profile sets step, lot size and the number of recovery orders for each symbol and account. RecoveryPilot is developed by Pitt Petruschke (AlgoVerdict) and sold on Algo Trading Space.

How the strategy works

One cycle in six steps: loss, lock, split, recover, pay off, done.
Recovery orders only open with the trend (EMA 20 and EMA 50 on H1), each with its own broker-side stop.
Partial recovery is the default. Grid averaging and zone recovery are optional and martingale-type.
Grid averaging: the worst case is calculated and printed in the Journal before the first order.
Manager mode takes over losing manual trades and trades of other EAs, only if the plan fits.
Eight layers between a basket and your account.
Limits and filters in plain words, as in the MT5 input window.

Illustration, not real prices. Past results do not guarantee future results.

Understanding the RecoveryPilot Strategy

RecoveryPilot gives you a fixed plan for a losing trade: lock it, split it into parts and pay off one part at a time. Grid averaging and zone recovery are included as martingale-type alternatives.

Best suited for:

  • Traders with a stuck trade who want a lock and a clear plan instead of hope.
  • Traders who run other EAs and want a separate tool for their losing trades.
  • Traders with a hedging account and free margin for the lock and the recovery orders.
  • Traders who can let a cycle run for weeks on a VPS.

Not recommended for:

  • Traders who want a quick fix: a large loss can take weeks or months to pay off.
  • Netting accounts.
  • Traders who do not accept the growing lot sizes of the grid and zone modes.
  • Traders who want a live account to follow before they buy.

RecoveryPilot is available here on Algo Trading Space. Start in the Strategy Tester on the symbols you want to trade.

RecoveryPilot at a Glance

  • Lock and split

A losing trade is locked with an opposite position.

  • Hedging account

The lock needs positions in both directions on one symbol, so the EA does not start on a netting account.

Technical Specifications and Trading Logic of RecoveryPilot

Every step of a recovery cycle follows fixed rules. You can read the plan and the symbol check in the Journal before the first trade.

  • Lock and Split

The lock is an opposite position of the same volume as the losing trade.

The lock is an opposite position of the same volume as the losing trade. From that moment the loss no longer grows with the price. Only swap keeps running. The losing volume is then split into up to eight parts, each at least the broker's minimum lot and rounded to the lot step.

  • Trend-Following Recovery Orders

Recovery orders open only when EMA 20 and EMA 50 on H1 point the same way and the last candle closed beyond EMA 20.

Recovery orders open only when EMA 20 and EMA 50 on H1 point the same way and the last candle closed beyond EMA 20. The recovery lot is one part times 1.5, or times 1.0 when the recovery budget is small. The EA opens at most one new order per candle, with at least one step between orders. Every recovery order has its own broker-side stop three steps away. The last part is closed together with everything else once the whole basket is at least break-even.

  • Recovery Stop and Safety Layers

The recovery stop caps what the recovery orders may lose on top of the frozen loss.

The recovery stop caps what the recovery orders may lose on top of the frozen loss. The default is 5% of the balance, counted from the moment the loss was frozen. When it triggers, the recovery orders are closed and the lock stays in place. Further layers: a pre-trade check of the worst case, hard lot limits, a margin check before every order, a basket stop, an equity brake and broker-side stops that stay active if the terminal goes offline. The cycle state is saved, so a restart does not lose it.

  • Auto Profile and Symbol Check

The auto profile sets the step from the daily range, ATR(D1) divided by 3.

The auto profile sets the step from the daily range, ATR(D1) divided by 3. The step is wider if the spread would be more than 5% of a step. It allows at most five recovery orders, and only as many as their stops can lose within the recovery budget and within half of the free margin. The symbol check rates each symbol GOOD, OK, CAUTION or NOT SUITABLE, based on spread, lock swap and margin.

  • Grid Averaging and Zone Recovery

Grid averaging adds positions in the losing direction at a growing step, with a lot multiplier from level 3.

Grid averaging adds positions in the losing direction at a growing step, with a lot multiplier from level 3. Before every cycle the EA simulates the basket to its last level. If the planned loss is above your limit (default 20% of balance), it reduces the number of levels or does not start the cycle. Zone recovery alternates buy and sell positions inside a zone, and each hedge lot grows with every flip. Both methods are martingale-type: many small winning cycles, and occasionally one larger loss when the market trends without pulling back.

  • Platform and Account Requirements

RecoveryPilot runs on MetaTrader 5 only and needs a hedging account.

RecoveryPilot runs on MetaTrader 5 only and needs a hedging account. It works on all symbols. You need free margin for the lock and the recovery orders. In Manager mode, other EAs on the same symbol must be switched off while a cycle runs.

Core Strengths of the RecoveryPilot System

  • Loss Frozen by a Lock

In partial recovery the loss stops growing with the price as soon as the lock is in place.

  • No Lot Multiplier by Default

The main mode uses a fixed recovery lot, not a growing one.

  • Worst Case Calculated First

Before each cycle the EA calculates the worst case and rejects cycles above your limit.

  • Settings per Symbol

Since version 1.2 the auto profile sets step, lot and order count for each symbol and account.

  • Works on Existing Trades

Manager mode takes over manual trades and trades of other EAs that are already in loss.

Who Should Use RecoveryPilot?

RecoveryPilot is a tool for one job: dealing with trades that are in loss. Whether it fits depends on how much time and margin you can give it.

  • The Trader with a Stuck Position

You hold a manual trade that went against you, and you do not want to close it at a full loss or simply hope.

You hold a manual trade that went against you, and you do not want to close it at a full loss or simply hope. You want a lock that stops the loss from growing and a clear plan to pay it off in small parts, with a hard cap on extra risk.

  • The Multi-EA Trader

You run other EAs and want a separate tool that takes over their losing trades by magic number.

You run other EAs and want a separate tool that takes over their losing trades by magic number. You accept that the other EA must be switched off on that symbol while RecoveryPilot runs its cycle.

  • The Trader Who Wants a Quick Fix

RecoveryPilot is probably not for you.

RecoveryPilot is probably not for you. Partial recovery costs time and swap: both the losing trade and the lock pay swap, and a large loss can take weeks or months to pay off. The grid and zone modes are martingale-type. It does not run on netting accounts, and there is no live account to follow yet.

Why Traders Choose RecoveryPilot for Automated Trading

  1. A Plan Instead of Hope

RecoveryPilot replaces waiting for a reversal with a fixed plan: lock, split, pay off.

RecoveryPilot replaces waiting for a reversal with a fixed plan: lock, split, pay off. You see on the panel how many parts are paid off and how much loss is left.

  2. Limits Set Before the Trade

The recovery stop, the pre-trade check, the margin check and the equity brake are set before money is at risk.

  3. Three Methods, Clearly Labelled

You can choose partial recovery, grid averaging or zone recovery.

  4. Checks Your Symbol and Account

The auto profile and the symbol check show before the first trade where partial recovery makes sense and where it would mainly pay costs such as spread and swap.

  5. A One-Time Price

The RecoveryPilot Setup and Implementation Process

RecoveryPilot holds positions for a long time, so a clean setup matters more than with most EAs. These are the steps from purchase to a running recovery cycle.

  1. Download and File Placement

Buy RecoveryPilot on Algo Trading Space, download it from My Account on Algo Trading Space and install it in your MetaTrader 5 terminal.

Buy RecoveryPilot on Algo Trading Space, download it from My Account on Algo Trading Space and install it in your MetaTrader 5 terminal. Six set files belong to it: two for partial recovery and four for grid, zone and manager mode. RecoveryPilot checks its licence online, so allow our address once in MetaTrader: open Tools, then Options, then Expert Advisors, tick "Allow WebRequest for listed URL" and add https://algotradingspace.com.

  2. Initialization on a Hedging Account

Check first that your account is a hedging account.

Check first that your account is a hedging account. The lock and the recovery orders are positions in both directions on one symbol, so on a netting account the EA does not start. Allow Algo Trading in the terminal and in the EA settings. Then attach RecoveryPilot to the chart of the symbol you want to manage.

  3. Configuring the Recovery Method and Mode

Choose the method with the "Recovery method" input: partial recovery (default), grid averaging or zone recovery.

Choose the method with the "Recovery method" input: partial recovery (default), grid averaging or zone recovery. Since version 1.2 the auto profile calculates step, parts, recovery lot and the maximum number of recovery orders for you. If you want RecoveryPilot to rescue existing trades instead of opening its own, use Manager mode. It takes over positions once they are a set number of points (default 300) or a set amount in loss. You choose which trades: manual trades only, every external trade, or one magic number. Switch off the other EA on that symbol while a recovery cycle runs.

  4. Monitoring and Management

In partial recovery the panel shows the frozen loss, the parts already paid off, the open recovery orders, the maximum loss allowed by the recovery stop, the equity drawdown and the auto-profile rating.

In partial recovery the panel shows the frozen loss, the parts already paid off, the open recovery orders, the maximum loss allowed by the recovery stop, the equity drawdown and the auto-profile rating. BUY and SELL start a cycle by hand. PAUSE stops new cycles. PAUSE followed by START grants a new recovery budget. CLOSE closes the basket after a second click. The EA manages the lock and the recovery orders while the terminal runs, so a VPS is the normal setup.

Technical Review and Implementation

Run RecoveryPilot in the Strategy Tester on the symbols you want to trade before you risk money. Read the plan and the symbol check in the Journal, and look at the lock swap: a symbol rated CAUTION or NOT SUITABLE may mainly pay costs. Then run it on a hedging demo account and watch a full cycle, including how long it takes to pay off a part. If you plan to use grid or zone mode, check the planned worst case against your balance first. Use a VPS for live trading, because a cycle can run for weeks.

Common Questions About RecoveryPilot

Practical answers on how RecoveryPilot works, what it needs and what the tests mean.

Which symbols and timeframes does RecoveryPilot work on?

It works on all symbols. The trend filter for recovery orders uses EMA 20 and EMA 50 on H1. The symbol check tells you whether a symbol suits partial recovery on your account.

Is RecoveryPilot a grid or martingale EA?

Not in its main mode with the default settings. In partial recovery the recovery lot is a fixed multiple of one part, with no lot multiplier. Grid averaging and zone recovery are martingale-type: in grid mode the lot is multiplied from a set level, in zone mode each hedge lot grows with every flip. These modes can lose a large part of an account in one cycle when the market trends without pulling back.

Does it work on netting accounts?

No. RecoveryPilot needs a hedging account, because the lock and the recovery orders are positions in both directions on one symbol. On a netting account the EA does not start.

What does partial recovery cost?

Time and swap. While the lock is in place, swap runs on both positions. A part is only paid off when the recovery orders have earned its loss. Depending on the size of the loss, this can take weeks or months. The recovery stop (default 5% of balance) caps what the recovery orders may lose on top.

How much capital do I need?

You need free margin for the lock and the recovery orders. The auto profile and the plan in the Journal show whether a symbol fits your account, and the EA rejects entries it cannot cover.

Is there a live account?

No. RecoveryPilot has no live account to follow yet, so this page explains its logic and its limits only. Test it in the Strategy Tester and on a demo account on the symbols you want to trade.

How much does it cost?

RecoveryPilot costs 49 EUR plus VAT as a one-time payment on Algo Trading Space. There is no rent option.

Do I need a VPS?

Yes. Run RecoveryPilot on a VPS. The EA manages the lock and the recovery orders while the terminal runs, and a cycle can last weeks. Broker-side stops on each recovery order stay active if the terminal goes offline.
